Okoiti Omtatah

Okoiti Andrew Omtatah, commonly known as Okiya Omtatah, is a Kenyan human rights activist, public interest litigator, and politician born on November 30, 1964, in Busia County. He is widely respected for his relentless fight against corruption, abuse of power, and constitutional violations in Kenya. Although not a lawyer by training, Omtatah has filed numerous public interest cases in court, earning a reputation as Kenya’s “citizen defender.” He studied at St. Peter’s Secondary School and later at the Kenya Polytechnic, where he earned a diploma in mechanical engineering. Earlier in life, he trained briefly for priesthood before health challenges redirected his path. Omtatah worked with Kenya National Assurance before dedicating himself to activism and community service. In 2022, he was elected as the Senator for Busia County, where he continues to champion justice, accountability, and good governance. His courage, integrity, and persistence have made him one of Kenya’s most influential civic leaders.
