Kericho County

John Chebochok is a Kenyan figure associated with the tea industry, particularly in Kericho County, where he has worked as a labour contractor and later emerged as a controversial leader within the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA). He gained national and international attention after being named in a 2023 BBC investigative documentary that alleged sexual exploitation of female tea workers allegations he has denied and for which no criminal charges were filed. Despite the controversy, he was elected in 2024 as a zonal director for Toror Tea Factory under KTDA, a move that sparked legal challenges, public debate, and scrutiny from women’s rights groups and global tea buyers.
