Malava Constituency voters turned out on Thursday morning to choose their next MP in a by-election prompted by the death of former legislator Malulu Injendi earlier this year.
DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako cast his vote at St. Joseph Lunyu K Primary School shortly after 9 a.m., greeting supporters who had queued early to beat the midday rush. IEBC officials described the exercise as calm, with no major incidents reported in the first hours.
A few kilometres away, UDA candidate David Ndakwa voted at Mukongolo Primary School in Malava. He arrived with party agents and briefly addressed residents outside, urging them to maintain peace throughout the day.
The poll has drawn intense interest from both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio-allied parties as they seek to secure influence in a constituency seen as politically strategic in Kakamega County.
Polling stations opened at 6 a.m., with security officers deployed across the constituency to ensure order. Early turnout was modest but steady, and officials expect numbers to rise before closing time.
Vote counting will begin immediately after polling stations close at 5 p.m., with provisional results expected later tonight.
