National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has arrived at Parliament Buildings ahead of the highly anticipated presentation of the 2026/27 Budget Statement scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
The budget reading, which is one of the most significant events in Kenya’s financial calendar, is expected to provide a detailed outline of the government's spending plans, economic priorities, and revenue-raising measures for the next fiscal year.
Parliament had earlier scheduled the budget presentation for Thursday, June 11, 2026, with Mbadi expected to address the National Assembly beginning at 3:00 p.m.
According to the National Assembly Order Paper, Speaker of the National Assembly will invite the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning to make a public pronouncement on the budget highlights and fiscal measures proposed by the government.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Standing Orders 25A(a) and 244C, the Speaker will today, not later than 3.00 p.m., invite the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning to make a public pronouncement of the budget highlights and revenue-raising measures for the national government for the fiscal year 2026/2027,” part of the Order Paper stated.
The budget speech is expected to address key sectors of the economy, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, security, and social protection programs. Kenyans will also be keenly watching for any proposed tax measures and interventions aimed at easing the cost of living amid ongoing economic challenges.
Mbadi’s presentation comes at a time when the government is under pressure to balance fiscal discipline with growing public demand for increased investment in essential services and development projects.
Lawmakers, business leaders, civil society groups, and citizens across the country are expected to closely follow the budget announcement to assess its impact on households, businesses, and the broader economy.
The budget proposals will subsequently be subjected to parliamentary scrutiny before implementation in the 2026/27 financial year.
