Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale appeared before the Milimani High Court on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in compliance with a court summons issued a day earlier. His appearance follows a ruling by Justice Patricia Nyaundi, who found the Health CS in contempt of court.
In her ruling delivered on Monday, June 22, 2026, Justice Nyaundi determined that Duale had acted contrary to court directives that prohibited the government and the Health Ministry from proceeding with the establishment of an Ebola treatment and response facility at Laikipia Airbase.
The court had previously issued orders barring any steps toward setting up the facility pending the determination of the case. However, the judge concluded that the directives were not adhered to, prompting the contempt finding and the order requiring Duale to personally appear before the court.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to concerns surrounding public health preparedness, government compliance with judicial orders, and the proposed use of the military airbase for Ebola-related operations. The court is expected to provide further directions on the matter following Duale’s appearance.
During an interview with Phil Director, legal observers noted that the proceedings could have wider implications for accountability among senior government officials and the enforcement of court orders in matters of national importance.
