President William Ruto has inspected the ongoing construction works at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi as the government pushes ahead with plans to modernize the facility into a premier international conference destination.
The Head of State toured the site on Thursday, June 25, 2026, to assess the progress of the multi-billion-shilling Bomas International Convention Complex project, which is expected to elevate Kenya's status as a leading destination for global conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events.
In a brief update shared on his X account, President Ruto confirmed his visit to the facility.
“Inspection of Bomas International Convention Complex, Nairobi,” the President posted.
The inspection came on a day when parts of the country witnessed demonstrations commemorating the second anniversary of the June 25, 2024 Gen Z protests, with heightened security deployed in several urban centres.
The modernization project at Bomas of Kenya is among the government's flagship infrastructure initiatives aimed at expanding the country's capacity to host major international meetings and events. Once completed, the facility is expected to complement Kenya's growing reputation as a regional hub for diplomacy, business, and tourism.
The development has also attracted the attention of Parliament. Earlier, a Senate committee visited the site to evaluate the progress of the construction works and expressed confidence that the convention centre would significantly enhance Kenya's competitiveness in the global meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry.
Lawmakers noted that the facility is expected to generate economic opportunities through increased tourism, job creation, and international investment while providing a modern venue capable of hosting high-level regional and global events.
The Bomas International Convention Complex is designed to incorporate modern conference facilities, exhibition spaces, and supporting infrastructure aimed at meeting international standards.
Government officials have maintained that the project will play a strategic role in positioning Nairobi as a preferred destination for international conferences and major global gatherings.
President Ruto's inspection signals the government's continued focus on infrastructure development and investment in projects intended to strengthen Kenya's economic and cultural profile on the international stage.
