The Cabinet has approved a KSh26 billion investment to expand Kenya's judicial infrastructure through the Judicial Performance Improvement Project (JPIP) Phase II, a programme being implemented in partnership with the World Bank.
The approval was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, as the government unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening public service delivery and accelerating economic growth through strategic infrastructure investments.
According to a Cabinet statement, the funding will support the construction of key judicial facilities, including a new Supreme Court complex, a dedicated Court of Appeal building, a consolidated Tribunals and Judiciary Administration complex, and a modern Kenya Judiciary Academy.
"Cabinet also endorsed major investments in strategic infrastructure to strengthen public services and accelerate economic growth. It sanctioned the KSh26 billion Judicial Performance Improvement Project Phase II," the Cabinet said in a statement.
The government noted that the project, which is being implemented in collaboration with the World Bank, is designed to modernize the country's judicial system and improve the delivery of justice.
"In partnership with the World Bank, to build a new Supreme Court complex, a dedicated Court of Appeal, a consolidated Tribunals and Judiciary Administration complex, and a modern Kenya Judiciary Academy, strengthening access to justice, improving judicial efficiency and boosting investor confidence," the statement added.
The government said the investment is expected to enhance access to justice by expanding court infrastructure, reducing case backlogs through improved facilities, and strengthening the institutional capacity of the Judiciary.
Officials also expressed confidence that a more efficient judicial system will enhance the country's investment climate by improving the resolution of commercial disputes and reinforcing confidence in Kenya's legal institutions.
The Judicial Performance Improvement Project Phase II forms part of the government's broader agenda to modernize public institutions and improve service delivery through strategic partnerships and infrastructure development.
