The opposition's Linda Mwananchi Tour will head to the Gusii region on Friday, July 3, with a series of engagements planned in Kisii and Nyamira counties as political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election gathers pace.
The tour, which has seen opposition leaders traverse different parts of the country, is expected to bring together key figures, including James Orengo and Edwin Sifuna.
Mobilising supporters ahead of the visit, Orengo posted a message in Ekegusii on X, inviting residents of Kisii and Nyamira to attend the events.
According to the programme released by organisers, the delegation will begin the day with a meeting with women leaders at Monarch Mosocho at 10 am before holding a rally in Kisii Town at 1 pm. The team will then proceed to Keumbu at 3 pm and conclude the day with a meeting in Keroka at 4 pm.
Former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo also rallied residents to turn up for the engagements.
Growing opposition campaign
The Linda Mwananchi Tour was launched by opposition leaders as a nationwide mobilisation drive aimed at rallying Kenyans around governance, economic and constitutional issues. During previous stops, opposition leaders have criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration over the high cost of living, increased taxation, unemployment and alleged human rights violations, including abductions and enforced disappearances.
The campaign has also been used to push for greater accountability and to position the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections. Leaders involved in the initiative have repeatedly argued that ordinary Kenyans are bearing the brunt of economic hardships and have called for policies they say would ease the burden on households and businesses.
The Gusii visit comes at a time of heightened political realignments across the country, with both the opposition and President William Ruto's allies intensifying grassroots mobilisation efforts in what is increasingly shaping up to be an early contest for influence and support ahead of the next General Election.
