Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced that the Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a major political rally in Bungoma as the opposition outfit steps up preparations for the 2027 General Election.
In a statement on Monday, Mr Sifuna said the rally would be used to outline the movement's political direction and formally unveil its strategy for the next electoral cycle.
"The Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a major rally in Bungoma, where we will outline our direction and declare our strategy going into 2027," he said.
The announcement marks the latest phase in the movement's nationwide mobilisation campaign, which has seen its leaders hold rallies across Mombasa, Kakamega, Machakos, Nakuru and other parts of the country while presenting themselves as an alternative political force.
The movement brings together a section of ODM leaders led by Mr Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. Since its launch earlier this year, the group has consistently criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration over the cost of living, governance and accountability while distancing itself from political cooperation with the government.
At previous rallies, Mr Sifuna has maintained that the movement is focused on building a citizen-driven political agenda rather than merely opposing the government.
"We are here to listen to wananchi and ensure their voices are heard in every decision that affects their lives," he said during the Machakos leg of the tour.
Governor Orengo has, meanwhile, urged supporters to begin organising early for the next General Election, arguing that political change requires sustained grassroots mobilisation.
"Winning an election in 2027 starts now. I want you to prepare yourselves—be ready, be registered," Mr Orengo told supporters during a rally in Mombasa.
The Siaya governor has also dismissed suggestions that the movement is operating outside ODM, insisting it represents the party's founding ideals. At a rally in Vihiga, he strongly defended Mr Sifuna's position as ODM Secretary-General, declaring: "We have never had a secretary-general as good as Sifuna."
The Bungoma rally is expected to test the movement's influence in Western Kenya, a region regarded as critical in the country's electoral arithmetic. Political analysts say the area is likely to attract heightened attention from rival formations as campaigns for the 2027 election gather momentum.
Although Mr Sifuna did not disclose the date of the Bungoma meeting or the leaders expected to attend, the event is expected to shape the movement's next phase of mobilisation as Kenya's political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the next General Election.
