Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has delivered an emotional prayer for peace, justice and divine guidance as voting got underway in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
In the prayer shared on his official X account, Njiru committed the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP)-backed candidate, Sammy Waweru, to God, asking for wisdom, courage, humility and favour before the electorate.
He prayed that leadership would be anchored on integrity, justice and compassion, urging God to guide both voters and election officials throughout the electoral process.
Drawing from biblical accounts, Njiru likened the contest to David's victory over Goliath and Gideon's triumph over the Midianites, saying genuine victory comes from God rather than political influence, wealth or state power.
"We trust in the name of the Lord our God. Let this election testify that true victory comes not from wealth, influence, intimidation, or the machinery of power, but from Your sovereign will," part of the prayer read.
The lawyer also referenced the stories of Sarah, Hannah, Samson, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, asking God to remember the people of Kenya, strengthen those who feel discouraged and ensure that justice prevails during the by-election.
Njiru further prayed for peace throughout the voting exercise, calling for an election conducted with fairness, transparency and respect for the will of the people.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election has attracted significant national attention amid heightened political competition between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the DCP-backed candidate, with authorities assuring residents of adequate security during the exercise.
