Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on residents of Ol Kalou Constituency to turn out in large numbers and cast their votes in the ongoing parliamentary by-election, describing the exercise as an opportunity to restore the dignity and pride of the people.
In a statement shared on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Gachagua invoked the legacy of the late JM Kariuki and Mau Mau freedom fighters led by Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, urging voters to remain steadfast in defending their democratic rights.
He praised residents for turning up early to vote despite what he described as attempts at intimidation and encouraged those who had not yet voted to proceed to their polling stations.
"We are priceless and will never sell our birthright to anyone, no matter the price. You have withstood intimidation and remain fearless. I am extremely proud to be your leader," Gachagua said.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader also commended young people for accompanying and protecting elderly voters as they made their way to polling stations.
"To our young men, thank you for waking up early to protect and escort your parents and your parents' age mates to go and vote. That is your cardinal duty in our society, and I am very proud of you," he stated.
Gachagua further urged all supporters of his political cause to vote before 11 a.m., saying younger voters should remain vigilant after casting their ballots to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
He expressed confidence that the outcome of the by-election would restore the dignity of the people of Ol Kalou before the end of the day.
The former deputy president also conveyed messages of support from residents across several counties, including Kiambu, Murang'a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Embu, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Trans Nzoia and Nairobi, saying they were encouraged by the high voter turnout witnessed in Ol Kalou.
"I love you, Ol Kalou, and I am sure I will love you even more before we go to bed tonight. God bless Ol Kalou," Gachagua said.
