The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election campaign saw the rollout of several government-backed development projects and the distribution of various items to residents as political activity intensified ahead of polling day.
Among the interventions highlighted during the campaign were blankets, shoes, mattresses, cooking gas cylinders, foodstuffs, cash handouts, electricity poles and transformers, more than 30,000 chicks, fresh boreholes, water canoes, tree seedlings, water tanks, and the revival of a project said to have stalled for 45 years. The government also highlighted the construction of the Ol Kalou Stadium as part of its development agenda in the constituency.
Despite the numerous projects and interventions announced or implemented during the campaign period, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate lost the parliamentary by-election to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru.
The outcome has sparked political debate, with both the ruling coalition and the opposition offering differing interpretations of what influenced voters' decisions in the closely watched contest.
