Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has endorsed three of his allies seeking elective positions in Kirinyaga County during the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kerugoya town on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Gachagua backed Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango for the governor’s seat, Baragwi Member of County Assembly David Mathenge for senator, and incumbent Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina for a second term.
Gachagua said the three leaders had remained loyal to him during and after his impeachment in 2024.
While endorsing Murango’s gubernatorial bid, Gachagua cited the senator’s legal challenge against the government’s decision to allow rice imports, saying it demonstrated his commitment to protecting local farmers.
“When the government allowed the importation of rice, Murango went to court to challenge the decision. He refused to be compromised. And that governor’s seat that he wants, I believe you can trust him with Kirinyaga,” Gachagua said.
On David Mathenge, Gachagua said the Baragwi MCA moved to court in an attempt to challenge his impeachment process and described him as a loyal ally who had resisted political pressure.
“When I got impeached, he rushed to court to stop the process. If he is worthy, kindly consider him,” he stated.
Gachagua also praised Njeri Maina for her legal advocacy on behalf of young people during the Gen Z-led anti-government protests.
“When our Gen Zs were killed, she was always in court defending them,” he said.
The endorsements come as political leaders intensify efforts to position themselves and their allies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Gachagua increasingly rallying support for leaders aligned with his political camp.
