President William Ruto has appointed Samuel Muchina Nyaga, the former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
The appointment was announced through a Gazette Notice issued by the President and takes effect from Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
According to the notice, the appointment was made pursuant to Gazette Notice No. 13907 of 2024 and Section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that, pursuant to Gazette Notice No. 13907 of 2024, as read together with section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Samuel Muchina Nyaga to be a Member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, with effect from the 22nd July, 2026,” the Gazette Notice read.
The notice also revoked the appointment of Amos Chege as a member of the commission.
Muchina’s appointment comes just days after Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi publicly assured him that the government would find him a position following his defeat in the Ol Kalou by-election.
Speaking on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Sudi said the government would accommodate Muchina to enable him to continue serving the public despite losing the election.
“This government is big enough to accommodate everyone. We will find a position for our candidate, Samuel Muchina, so he can continue serving, and life will go on,” Sudi said.
Muchina lost the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election to Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who secured a decisive victory in the closely watched contest.
