President William Ruto has intensified his criticism of opposition leaders, describing them as an existential threat to Kenya's economy and the country's future while urging Kenyans to unite behind his administration's development agenda.
Speaking on Sunday in Amagoro Town, Teso North Constituency, Busia County, the President said his government remained focused on transforming the country through economic growth, infrastructure development and the expansion of opportunities despite sustained political opposition.
"The Opposition are an existential threat to our country. They are not only a threat to our economy but also to the future of our children," President Ruto said.
The Head of State appealed to Kenyans to support his administration, arguing that national development required political stability and a united citizenry.
"We ask Kenyans to rally behind this Government; a transformative administration that is driving growth and expanding opportunities for everyone," he said.
President Ruto also took aim at leaders he accused of frustrating government programmes, saying those opposed to development should not obstruct efforts to improve the lives of Kenyans.
"Those who are not for progress and development should not stand in the way of our country's transformation," he said.
The remarks came as the President continued his development tour of Western Kenya, where he has launched and inspected infrastructure projects while rallying support for the broad-based government formed after his cooperation agreement with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The President has repeatedly defended the broad-based arrangement, saying it has enhanced political stability and enabled the government to focus on implementing its economic agenda, including affordable housing, agricultural reforms, universal health coverage and job creation.
His latest remarks also come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua leading a resurgent opposition campaign that has accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of failing to address the high cost of living, unemployment and governance concerns.
The opposition has also faulted the government over its handling of anti-government protests and accused it of shrinking democratic space, claims the administration has consistently denied.
President Ruto has, however, maintained that his government remains committed to delivering on its election promises, insisting that political leaders should prioritise development over what he describes as divisive politics.
The President was accompanied by senior national and county leaders during the Busia tour, where he reiterated his administration's commitment to accelerating development projects across the country regardless of political affiliation.
