Speaking in Karatina on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, after leading a Wiper Party delegation to meet Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Mwangangi said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two political formations.
Mwangangi argued that the Kamba community should be regarded as part of the broader Mt Kenya political bloc and warned against attempts to split the region along ethnic or political lines.
“I have seen the current government, more so President William Ruto, wants to split Mt Kenya to have Kambas on one side, Mbeere and Embu,” Mwangangi said.
“They want to split Kiambu; we want to say that Mt Kenya is united, and even we Kamba are in, and we will not accept to be divided.”
The deputy governor said Wiper and DCP needed to strengthen their relationship to prevent the opposition vote from being fragmented in the 2027 elections.
He accused President William Ruto of supporting the creation of different political parties in an effort to divide opposition support and improve his chances of securing re-election.
Mwangangi further said the political alliance was focused on ensuring that Ruto does not secure a second term in office.
The Wiper delegation included Members of Parliament, senators and Members of County Assembly, among other party officials, and was said to have been representing Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in delivering a message of unity to Gachagua and his supporters.
Following the meeting, the delegation joined Gachagua and DCP supporters during political rallies in Nyeri County before proceeding to his Wamunyoro home for further engagements.
