President William Ruto has congratulated Ian Njuguna Waiguru, son of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, and Joanne Gonzales following their wedding in Nairobi.

The couple exchanged vows on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Langat family residence in Karen, Nairobi, in a ceremony attended by family, friends and several high-profile political figures.

Ruto was among the guests at the colourful ceremony, which brought together the Waiguru and Gonzales families.

In a message shared after the wedding, the President wished the newlyweds a happy and lasting marriage, urging them to build their union on friendship, patience and mutual support.

“May you build a strong and happy home, grow together through every season of life, and find in each other enduring friendship, strength and companionship,” Ruto said.

He encouraged the couple to remain committed to each other as they navigate the different stages of marriage.

“As you walk this journey together, stand by each other, listen with patience, forgive generously and never stop choosing one another,” he said.

Ruto concluded by wishing the couple a lifetime of love and happiness.

“May your marriage be blessed with lasting love, abundant joy and many wonderful years together,” he said.

The wedding attracted a number of prominent political figures, including Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and nominated Senator Veronica Maina.

Wanga congratulated the couple and wished them a lifetime of happiness as they began their married life together.

The ceremony was marked by carefully coordinated wedding attire. Joanne wore a white off-shoulder wedding gown, while Ian wore a white tuxedo. The bridesmaids were dressed in red, while the groomsmen wore jungle-green suits paired with white shirts and red ties.

The wedding followed an earlier traditional Ruracio ceremony involving the two families.

The traditional ceremony was described by family members as a celebration filled with song, laughter and festivities as the families came together ahead of the couple's formal wedding.

For Governor Waiguru, the occasion marked a major family milestone as she watched her son begin a new chapter of his life.

The presence of Ruto and other senior political figures gave the ceremony a high-profile guest list, although the occasion remained primarily a celebration of the union of the two families.

Ruto's message focused on the personal responsibilities that come with marriage, urging Ian and Joanne to support each other, listen patiently and practise forgiveness.

His remarks also reflected the traditional messages often delivered to newly married couples — that a successful union requires friendship, resilience and a continued willingness to choose each other through life's challenges.
