Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens’ Participation (DCP) party has launched a grassroots mobilisation campaign in Kakamega County, targeting all 1,680 polling stations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The campaign, led by DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malalah, is seeking to establish polling-station teams that will recruit supporters, mobilise residents and promote the party’s activities across the county.
“The DCP Party has launched a dynamic grassroots engagement campaign targeting the 1,680 polling stations across Kakamega County,” Gachagua said in a post on his official Facebook page.
He said the teams would serve as the party’s representatives at the grassroots while creating an avenue for residents to participate in political activities.
“This strategy seeks to actively listen, onboard citizens, and enhance meaningful engagement in our public affairs,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President said the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and increase its engagement with voters ahead of the next election.
Malalah is leading the initial phase of the campaign, which has already covered Sheywe, Mahiakalo, Shirere, Malaha-Isongo, Ingotse-Matiha, Shinoyi, Shikomari, Lubinu Lusheya, East Wanga and Butsotso-Central wards.
The DCP said the campaign would continue in other parts of Kakamega County as the party works to establish teams at each polling station.
Malalah, who previously served as Kakamega Senator, has been involved in the party’s efforts to expand its presence in Western Kenya.
The party said the grassroots teams would be responsible for mobilising residents and acting as ambassadors for DCP in their respective polling stations.
“Our Deputy Party Leader, Senator Cleophas Malalah, is leading this initiative,” Gachagua said.
He added that the campaign was aimed at ensuring that the party remained connected to voters at the local level.
The first phase has taken the DCP team through several wards in the county, with party officials engaging residents and recruiting supporters.
Kakamega has 12 constituencies and is one of the largest vote-rich counties in Western Kenya.
DCP has been building its political structures in different parts of the country as Mr Gachagua prepares his political movement for the 2027 election.
Gachagua has previously called for the formation of a political movement that brings together Kenyans from different regions and communities.
The former Deputy President has also continued to criticise the Kenya Kwanza administration since his removal from office in October 2024.
The Kakamega campaign marks one of the party’s latest efforts to establish a presence outside its areas of initial mobilisation.
DCP said the grassroots engagement would focus on listening to residents, recruiting members and strengthening its organisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
