National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula has visited the family of Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu to convey his condolences following the death of her husband, Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu.
Wetang’ula visited the family in Karen, Nairobi, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, accompanied by a host of MPs.
The Speaker condoled with Mbalu and her son, offering them words of comfort as the family prepares to lay Justice Mutava to rest.
Wetang’ula urged the family to remain strong during the difficult period and to put God first as they come to terms with the loss.
“Justice Mutava will be remembered for his dedicated service to the Judiciary, having served with honour, integrity and dedication since his appointment in 2011,” Wetang’ula said.
“It is my prayer that the Almighty God grants strength and comfort to the family, friends and the people of Kibwezi as they come to terms with this great loss,” he added.
Justice Mutava was appointed to the Judiciary in 2011 and served for more than a decade before his death. Wetang’ula described his service as one marked by honour, integrity and dedication.
The Speaker’s visit brought together members of Parliament to stand with Mbalu and her family during the mourning period.
The late Justice Mutava’s requiem mass is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish in Karen, Nairobi.
The funeral programme will culminate in his burial on Friday, September 4, 2026, in Kibwezi, where family, friends and residents are expected to gather to pay their final respects.
Mbalu, who represents Kibwezi East in the National Assembly, is among the leaders and family members mourning the loss as preparations for the burial continue.
