Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei has applauded Ida Odinga for decisively clarifying the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), stating that Senator Oburu Odinga remains the legitimate party leader. Ida made the announcement during the burial of her sister-in-law, Beryl Odinga, in Bondo on December 6, 2025. Her remarks aimed to end the growing debate and political speculation that had surrounded the party following the death of former ODM leader Raila Odinga. In her speech, Ida emphasized that both within the Odinga family and the ODM party structure, Oburu holds full authority and continues to steer its direction.
Cherargei expressed appreciation for Ida’s statement, saying it brought much-needed clarity at a time when some individuals were attempting to exploit uncertainty for personal political gain. He urged ODM members and leaders to remain focused on strengthening the party rather than allowing internal divisions to undermine its unity. According to Cherargei, the confirmation of Oburu’s leadership should put to rest rumors and political maneuvering that have threatened party cohesion in recent weeks.
The reaffirmation came during an emotional ceremony honoring Beryl Odinga, whose burial brought together family members, political leaders, and supporters. Ida used the moment not only to clarify ODM leadership but also to call for respect during a period of mourning, urging politicians and commentators to refrain from pushing divisive succession debates.
Oburu Odinga has also reassured supporters that ODM remains stable and that there is no leadership vacuum within the party. As ODM navigates the transition into the post-Raila era, Ida’s affirmation combined with Cherargei’s public support signals a push toward unity, stability, and renewed focus on the party’s future direction.
