Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has praised Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino for their political mobilisation in Nairobi, saying he is impressed by the way the three are pushing their agenda.
Gachagua said he had spoken to the politicians and told them he was in no hurry to return, as he watched the younger leaders take charge of the political mobilisation.
“My cousin Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino, Nairobi is locked,” Gachagua said.
“Nimepigia hao vijana nimewaambia mimi sina haraka ya kurudi, the way they’re pushing, they’re even better than I. I was actually looking on YouTube, I am admiring them, hii vijana ni kali,” he said.
Gachagua said he had been following their activities on YouTube and was impressed by the energy they were bringing to the political contest.
His remarks come as opposition leaders intensify political activities in Nairobi ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Sifuna and Babu emerging as prominent figures in the city's political mobilisation.
Kalonzo, a former Vice-President and Wiper leader, remains one of the veteran figures in the opposition as parties and politicians weigh possible alliances ahead of the elections.
Gachagua has in recent months advocated for a broad opposition alliance against President William Ruto while cautioning against rushing to name a presidential candidate.
He has argued that settling on a candidate too early would give the Kenya Kwanza administration an opportunity to target and weaken the person selected to lead the opposition into the 2027 election.
His latest remarks suggest he is comfortable with the current crop of opposition leaders driving mobilisation on the ground, particularly in Nairobi.
By declaring that “Nairobi is locked”, Gachagua expressed confidence in the political momentum being generated by Kalonzo, Sifuna and Babu as the opposition prepares for the next phase of the 2027 contest.
