Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has dismissed reports of a fallout between him and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, insisting that he remains fully behind Sifuna's bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Tuesday, Babu said his decision to scale down his participation in some Linda Mwananchi activities was driven by his plans to concentrate on his campaign for the Nairobi governorship.
“There are no internal wrangles between Sifuna and me,” Babu said, dismissing claims that the two leaders had fallen out.
He said he supports Sifuna “100 percent” and described the senator as his brother, arguing that their pursuit of different elective positions should not be interpreted as rivalry.
Babu said he intends to focus more on Nairobi, where he is preparing to mount a campaign for the governor's seat, while continuing to mobilise support for Sifuna's presidential bid.
The MP said this would mean missing some Linda Mwananchi rallies because of clashes with his Nairobi campaign programme.
He nevertheless maintained that his political relationship with Sifuna remained intact.
Babu and Sifuna have emerged as prominent figures in the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has been mobilising opposition supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.
The two were among the leaders who led the movement's Nairobi procession on Sunday, September 13, from the city centre to Jacaranda Grounds, where they addressed thousands of supporters.
Babu said his focus on Nairobi should not be viewed as a withdrawal of support for Sifuna.
He also urged opposition leaders to remain united behind the presidential candidate, warning that divisions could undermine their efforts to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.
Babu has previously denied reports of disagreements with Sifuna, saying such claims were attempts to divide the opposition.
The renewed denial comes days after reports of tensions between the two politicians emerged as Linda Mwananchi intensified its activities in Nairobi.
Sifuna had been holding meetings with opposition figures as part of efforts to prevent disagreements over the opposition's presidential ticket from escalating. Babu was among the leaders pictured with Sifuna after one of the meetings.
Babu, however, has maintained that his political ambitions in Nairobi do not conflict with Sifuna's national ambitions.
He said his task would be to consolidate support for the movement in Nairobi while Sifuna concentrates on the presidential race.
The two leaders therefore appear to be pursuing separate electoral targets under the same political arrangement, with Babu seeking the Nairobi governorship and Sifuna positioning himself for the presidency in 2027.
