Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stepped up his campaign against corruption and political intolerance, telling Nairobi Akorino leaders that his proposed Ukombozi agenda is aimed at transforming the country rather than replacing one set of leaders with another.
Mr Musyoka made the remarks after hosting leaders of the Akorino Nairobi Chapter for discussions on governance, corruption, political violence and what he described as the erosion of national values.
“As a church, they have watched corruption deepen, political intolerance spread, goonism flourish and our moral values erode, with no one stepping in to stop it. They have seen and heard enough, and their message to me was plain: enough is enough,” he said.
The Wiper leader said his political agenda would prioritise integrity, accountability, justice and respect for opposing political views, arguing that the country needed fundamental changes in how it was governed.
“My commitment to them is clear. When we say Ukombozi, we mean true liberation and the complete transformation of our nation. Integrity must replace corruption. Respect must replace political intolerance. Accountability must replace impunity,” he said.
Mr Musyoka’s remarks come as opposition leaders reorganise their parties and alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the Ukombozi Alliance emerging as one of the formations seeking to challenge President William Ruto.
The former Vice-President has positioned himself at the centre of the alliance, which was formed through the rebranding of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition following the death of its former leader, Raila Odinga.
However, the coalition faces resistance from some opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement, which have expressed reservations about joining the outfit.
Mr Musyoka has maintained that Ukombozi should offer a broader political alternative, with its agenda extending beyond the question of who succeeds Dr Ruto.
“Ukombozi is not about changing faces in leadership. It is about rebuilding Kenya and restoring dignity, justice and hope to every Kenyan,” he said.
The meeting with the Akorino leaders also provided Mr Musyoka an opportunity to engage religious figures on the country’s political direction, with the Wiper leader saying he valued their counsel, prayers and commitment to a peaceful and just Kenya.
His latest message places integrity and accountability at the centre of his Ukombozi campaign as the opposition seeks to build a common platform ahead of the next election.
