President William Ruto has underscored his government’s determination to accelerate Kenya’s economic transformation, saying the country’s development journey is advancing at “full speed” across all 47 counties.
Speaking on the progress of key national projects, the President highlighted Kiambu County as a clear example of the administration’s development agenda in action. In less than three years, the government has invested more than KSh4.5 billion in the construction of 30 modern markets, marking the largest market infrastructure programme ever undertaken in Kenya. The facilities are designed to provide traders with dignified, safe, and well-equipped spaces to do business, while stimulating local economies and supporting the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises.
President Ruto said empowering traders and small businesses remains central to his economic vision, noting that modern markets not only improve livelihoods but also strengthen value chains and enhance service delivery at the grassroots level.
At the national level, the President pointed to the ambitious KSh5 trillion National Economic Independence Project as the cornerstone of Kenya’s long-term development strategy. The programme is expected to generate millions of jobs, expand wealth creation opportunities, and place the country on a firm and sustainable economic footing.
According to the Head of State, the project is geared toward transforming Kenya into a globally competitive, first-world economy by focusing on production, industrial growth, infrastructure development, and inclusive economic participation.
President Ruto called on Kenyans from all sectors to work together in support of the government’s development agenda, emphasizing that unity and shared purpose are essential to achieving lasting economic progress.
“Our collective effort is what will turn this vision into reality,” he said, reiterating that the transformation of Kenya depends on the active participation of citizens, county governments, and the private sector alike.
