Prominent lawyer and Advocate of the High Court Kibe Mungai has added weight to growing concerns over the circumstances surrounding the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, insisting that the incident does not appear to be a genuine road accident.
In his latest remarks, Mungai questioned how and why Jirongo ended up in Naivasha, saying it was “highly unlikely” that the former legislator moved there of his own volition. He further pointed out that the scene of the alleged accident raised serious red flags, noting the absence of passengers, neighbors, or bystanders who could corroborate what transpired.
“At the scene of the accident, there were no passengers, neighbors, or bystanders—no evidence anywhere. The only account comes from the driver. This is quite unusual,” Mungai said.
According to the advocate, such gaps in information demand a more comprehensive and transparent investigation, especially given Jirongo’s stature as a seasoned politician and influential public figure. He warned against accepting preliminary explanations without subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny.
Mungai maintained that, taken together, the circumstances surrounding the incident do not support the conclusion that Jirongo’s death was a legitimate accident. He reiterated the need for investigators to look beyond initial reports as the country awaits postmortem findings.
The comments have fueled public debate and renewed calls for authorities to establish the full truth behind Jirongo’s death, with many Kenyans urging a credible probe to address lingering questions and restore public confidence.
