Former Lugari and Likuyani Member of Parliament, Dr. Enoch (Enock) Kibunguchy, has passed away at a hospital in Eldoret, raising concerns among his family about the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.
Kibunguchy, 72, who served as Lugari MP from 2003 to 2007 and later as Likuyani MP for two terms (2013–2022), reportedly fell ill about ten days before his death, initially diagnosed with suspected food poisoning. Despite medical treatment, his condition worsened, culminating in complications including kidney failure, intestinal bleeding, and breathing difficulties.
His family, however, has expressed doubts about the official diagnosis, calling for an independent investigation. “The illness progressed unusually fast and aggressively. We need clarity on what really happened,” said Kelly Walubengo, his uncle. They plan to formally request a detailed post-mortem to establish the exact cause of death.
Kibunguchy’s widow, Josephine, remembered him as a devoted husband and a humble leader who served his constituents with dedication. “He was committed to his people and family; this sudden loss is heartbreaking,” she said.
Political leaders and colleagues have expressed shock and condolences over his passing, with many highlighting his contributions to both Lugari and Likuyani constituencies.
The family has also appealed to authorities to ensure transparency in the investigation, saying they will share more information once the post-mortem is complete and before funeral arrangements are finalized.
The news of Kibunguchy’s death has sent ripples through Western Kenya’s political community, with many noting his influence and mentorship in the region’s political landscape.
