Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has sparked debate over Kenya’s 2027 elections, claiming that President William Ruto may seek re-election under the banner of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Speaking during a recent rally in Homa Bay, Kaluma urged the opposition to unite behind a candidate with a proven development record to mount a credible challenge against the president.
“President Ruto will do everything possible to retain power, and if he aligns with ODM, we must be prepared,” Kaluma said. “The opposition must not focus on personalities alone; we need a leader who has demonstrated tangible development and can offer Kenyans a real alternative.”
Kaluma’s remarks come amid rising speculation about party realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians increasingly exploring strategic alliances. Analysts say such predictions reflect ongoing uncertainty in Kenya’s political landscape, as parties recalibrate ahead of one of the country’s most contested presidential races.
He added that a united opposition is critical, warning that disunity could hand the advantage to the incumbent. “Kenyans deserve leaders who deliver results, not just promises,” Kaluma emphasized, appealing to opposition parties to prioritize competence and development achievements over political rhetoric.
