United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has formally unveiled its candidate for the Isiolo South parliamentary by-election, as the ruling party steps up preparations for the February 2026 vote and seeks to consolidate support in northern Kenya.
At a ceremony held Tuesday at the party’s headquarters, Hustler Plaza in Nairobi, UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar Hassan handed the party’s nomination certificate to Tubi Mohamed Tubi, clearing him to fly the UDA flag in the by-election scheduled for February 26, 2026.
Speaking during the event, Hassan said the nomination followed consultations with local leaders and communities in Isiolo, which he said had resulted in a rare consensus candidate. He conveyed President William Ruto’s appreciation to the county leadership and residents for rallying behind Tubi and the ruling party.
“The President is grateful to the people of Isiolo for the unity they have demonstrated and for the confidence they continue to place in UDA,” Hassan said. “This consensus is a strong signal that the party’s development agenda is resonating at the grassroots.”
Hassan said the government remained focused on improving livelihoods through what he described as targeted interventions and social and economic programmes, adding that UDA candidates were expected to champion that agenda in Parliament.
“The President’s commitment to uplifting the quality of life for all Kenyans is unwavering, and our candidates must be at the forefront of delivering that promise,” he said.
Tubi, addressing supporters after receiving the certificate, pledged to run an inclusive campaign and to prioritise issues affecting Isiolo South, including security, water access, education and economic opportunities for pastoralist communities. He said he would work closely with national and county leaders if elected.
“This nomination is not just about me; it is about the people of Isiolo South and their hopes for better representation and development,” Tubi said. “I am ready to listen, to serve and to work with everyone for the good of our constituency.”
The event was attended by several leaders from Isiolo and the UDA leadership, including Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, former Isiolo North MP Charfano Mokku, Leila Mohamed Tubi, Wako Abdi Wako, UDA Director of Communication Rob Jillo and National Elections Board official Wycliffe Nduati.
The Isiolo South by-election is expected to draw attention as UDA seeks to strengthen its foothold in the region amid shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election. For the ruling party, the contest will be an early test of its grassroots machinery and its ability to maintain unity in a constituency with diverse communities and long-standing local dynamics.
