Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has urged authorities to launch a comprehensive and independent probe following the collapse of a high-rise building under construction in South C, Nairobi County. The incident has reignited public concern over the safety of construction projects in the capital.
According to Babu Owino, the tragedy points to deeper systemic failures, including weak enforcement of building regulations and possible negligence by developers and regulators. He stressed that investigations must go beyond surface-level findings and identify all individuals and institutions responsible.
Push for Reforms in the Construction Sector
The lawmaker also called for far-reaching reforms aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future. He emphasized the need for stricter approvals, regular inspections, and tougher penalties for those who compromise public safety for profit.
Babu Owino said that Kenyans deserve safe housing and workspaces, adding that preventable disasters only erode public trust in authorities tasked with protecting lives.
