Saitabao ole Kanchory has revisited events from June 24, 2022, alleging that he was deliberately denied entry into a high-level Azimio meeting at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. According to him, the directive came from Junet Mohamed, who allegedly feared that Saitabao would contradict him in front of key coalition figures.
The meeting was reportedly expected to address sensitive matters involving the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), with Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta set to attend.
After being locked out, Saitabao says he made a dramatic move by confronting Raila Odinga during a press conference held shortly after the meeting. He claims he insisted on speaking privately with Raila, an incident he describes as briefly holding “Baba hostage” to secure a few minutes of attention.
In video footage referenced by Saitabao, he says Raila can be heard questioning his absence from the meeting, having expected him to present a dossier he was carrying at the time.
Saitabao alleges the dossier contained sensitive information pointing to what he describes as a tribal and partisan scheme within the IEBC that favoured UDA and William Ruto. He claims the alleged plot involved individuals closely linked to Junet.
According to Saitabao, the information came from highly placed and reliable sources within the electoral body.
Private Briefing and Fallout
He says he later got the opportunity to brief Raila Odinga in detail during a private breakfast meeting attended by lawyer Paul Mwangi. Despite what he describes as overwhelming evidence, Saitabao claims Junet repeatedly downplayed the concerns and advised Raila not to worry about the IEBC.
He further alleges that Junet maintained this stance until his objectives were achieved, after which he disappeared from the political scene for several weeks before resurfacing.
