The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has underscored the need for close cooperation with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to ensure a smooth and credible 2027 General Election.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, hosted a delegation from ORPP, led by Registrar J.C. Lorionokou, at the Commission’s headquarters yesterday. Speaking during the meeting, Ethekon noted that the mandates of IEBC and ORPP are complementary and closely aligned. He said both institutions have a long history of collaboration, which will continue in the lead-up to the elections.
“Election periods present numerous challenges, making collaboration essential,” Ethekon said. “IEBC, ORPP, the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC), and political parties must work together, partner effectively, and sequence their activities to deliver a credible election.”
Lorionokou thanked the Commission for the warm reception and reaffirmed that both institutions are legally obliged to cooperate. He emphasised the importance of structured dialogue and sustained engagement among electoral stakeholders to ensure peaceful elections.
“Every stakeholder must commit to peaceful elections and take individual responsibility in promoting harmony and stability,” Lorionokou said.
The meeting comes as the country prepares for the 26th February by-elections, with both institutions highlighting their role in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
