Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday said his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) had ratified a plan of action for the year following a three-day retreat with allied legislators, signalling an early push to consolidate the party’s political strategy.
The retreat, held over the past weekend, brought together senior DCP officials and legislators aligned with Gachagua’s political vision. It is part of the party’s broader effort to strengthen internal cohesion, boost grassroots support, and position itself as a credible alternative ahead of Kenya’s 2027 general elections.
“After a three-day retreat with like-minded legislators, this morning, with the DCP Party Deputy Party Leader, we have ratified the Plan of Action for the year,” Gachagua said, highlighting the party’s renewed focus on strategic planning.
He added that Senator Cleophas Malala had been tasked with overseeing the execution of the plan. “I have tasked Senator Malala to spearhead the implementation of this action on behalf of the party,” he said.
DCP, founded in the aftermath of the 2022 elections, has been gradually expanding its presence in several counties. The party’s leadership has emphasised strengthening legislative coordination, enhancing outreach programmes, and building a disciplined party structure to compete with Kenya’s larger political formations.
Analysts say the move reflects Gachagua’s intent to consolidate his political base and lay the groundwork for a more influential role in the coming election cycle, especially as alliances and party realignments take shape across the country.
Senator Malala is expected to work closely with party organs and legislators to translate the retreat’s resolutions into concrete actions that will reinforce DCP’s national footprint.
