The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has intensified preparations for the February 26, 2026 by-elections as part of its constitutional mandate to fill vacant elective seats within stipulated timelines.
The upcoming polls will be held to fill the vacant Member of National Assembly seat for Isiolo South Constituency and County Assembly Ward seats in West Kabras (Malava Constituency) as well as Evurore and Muminji wards in Mbeere Constituency. Such by-elections are typically triggered by death, resignation, nullification of results by courts, or other circumstances provided for under electoral law.
IEBC officials say the joint National Planning meeting in Naivasha brought together senior commission staff and field officers to review logistical, legal and operational readiness, including staff deployment, security coordination and compliance with electoral laws. The administration of the Oath of Secrecy of the Ballot is a routine but critical step meant to reinforce accountability and public confidence in the electoral process.
The by-elections will be conducted under the same legal and procedural framework used in general elections, including strict timelines for campaigns, accreditation of agents and observance of the campaign silence period ahead of polling day.
