Oketch Salah has issued a detailed clarification regarding a past incident involving the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, seeking to correct public misinformation and defend the reputation of a longtime member of Odinga’s security team.
Salah explained that the security officer who was with him on the night in question was not Maurice Ogetta, contrary to speculation. He stated that the incident occurred late at night when Ogetta was already off duty. Instead, Salah was accompanied by another member of Raila Odinga’s security detail, Francis Ogolla, who is also a relative of the ODM leader.
Recounting the events of that evening at Raila Odinga’s Karen residence, Salah said they had just finished watching the Manchester City versus Arsenal match. As he escorted Odinga to rest, he noticed something was wrong when Odinga suddenly became weak and appeared close to losing consciousness.
Salah said he immediately moved to support Odinga, who fell onto his chest. He called out to Francis Ogolla to bring a chair and, as Ogolla rushed to get it, Salah held Odinga carefully and helped him sit down. He described the moment as heavy, frightening, and deeply emotional, admitting that for a brief period he feared the situation could take a tragic turn.
“By God’s mercy, Baba regained consciousness shortly after,” Salah said, expressing gratitude that the situation stabilized.
He also took the opportunity to strongly defend Maurice Ogetta, describing him as a loyal and dedicated servant who stood by Raila Odinga faithfully for many years. Salah emphasized that Ogetta was with Odinga in India until the very end and played a critical role in caring for him throughout his later years.
“What Maurice Ogetta did for Baba is something only God can truly reward,” Salah said, adding that his service and sacrifice should never be questioned or forgotten.
Salah concluded by publicly thanking Ogetta for his unwavering dedication, saying his contribution to Raila Odinga’s life and legacy will always be remembered.
