The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Thursday presented an update on preparations for the 2027 General Election to Members of the National Assembly during the 2026 Legislative Retreat.
The four-day retreat, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula, brings together MPs to reflect on legislative progress, address emerging challenges, and strategize for the Fifth Session of the Thirteenth Parliament.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, HSC, outlined the Commission’s plans, highlighting the legislative and regulatory framework, budgetary and financial requirements, stakeholder engagement, and updates on election operations and boundary delimitation.
“The Commission’s preparations for the 2027 General Election are deliberate and firmly grounded in evidence and experience. The credibility of the electoral process will depend on institutional readiness, effective inter-agency coordination, timely and adequate resourcing, and sustained public confidence,” Ethekon said.
He expressed appreciation for Parliament’s continued engagement, noting that legislative support is vital not only for oversight and appropriations but also for safeguarding electoral integrity and political stability.
“We believe today’s engagement will foster a better understanding of the Commission’s work and strengthen institutional collaboration,” Ethekon added.
The IEBC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding its constitutional mandate and emphasized the importance of continued partnership with Parliament in protecting Kenya’s democratic architecture.
