Retired Chief Justice and 2027 presidential aspirant David Maraga has officially launched a nationwide civic education initiative known as the Ukatiba Caravan, following the successful fundraising of Ksh7,745,788.04 to support his campaign efforts.
In a statement shared on his official X account in the early hours of Thursday, January 29, 2026, Maraga expressed gratitude to the 1,834 Kenyans who contributed financially to the campaign. He paid special tribute to Kenyans living abroad, whose contributions exceeded Ksh6 million.
“I am deeply grateful to the 1,834 of you who have made a financial contribution to our campaign, with a total of KES 7,745,788.04 so far. I am particularly thankful to the Kenyans in the Diaspora who have made a significant contribution of more than 6 million shillings, which has boosted our efforts immensely,” Maraga said.
He noted that the funds will be used transparently and accountably to roll out the Ukatiba Caravan, a countrywide civic education program focused on increasing voter registration, particularly among young people.
According to Maraga, the initiative is anchored on empowering the youth and strengthening constitutional awareness as part of his broader vision for democratic participation.
The civic education drive is closely tied to his #GenZ15MillionStrong movement, which targets the registration of 15 million Gen Z voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Maraga’s announcement positions the Ukatiba Caravan as a key pillar of his early campaign strategy, blending constitutional education with youth mobilization as he builds momentum for his presidential bid.
