Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has taken aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over what he described as past remarks directed at the Somali community.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Salasya accused Gachagua of attempting to rehabilitate his public image by resorting to tribal politics.
“Trying to salvage your image on your useless tribal card politics when you attacked children from Somali land not to school in Mangu Alliance, Starehe, etc., won’t help you. If you could be doing good politics, hii stress hungepata boss,” Salasya wrote.
The legislator went on to label Gachagua a hypocrite, arguing that during his two-year tenure as Deputy President, he failed to stand up for communities he is now seeking to defend.
Salasya claimed that at no point did Gachagua visit or engage the State Department of Devolution to address challenges facing communities that were allegedly targeted or marginalized.
According to the Mumias East MP, genuine leadership requires consistency and action, not political rhetoric driven by changing fortunes.
His remarks add to the growing political exchanges surrounding Gachagua, as leaders continue to scrutinize his past record and current positioning within Kenya’s evolving opposition politics.
