Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that Gichuki Mugambi, the immediate former Othaya MP, has joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), describing the move as a signal of growing grassroots support for the new political outfit.
In a statement on Wednesday morning, Gachagua said he had welcomed Mugambi to the party after consultations with residents of Othaya. “I served with Gichuki Mugambi in the 12th Parliament, and he has told me that the people of Othaya instructed him to be in their party of choice, the DCP,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua added that the party remained open to leaders who shared its vision and were seeking a future in national leadership. “Our party, DCP, remains open to all progressive leaders who wish to have a future in leadership,” he said.
Mugambi served as Othaya MP during the 12th Parliament before losing his seat in the 2022 General Election. His entry into DCP comes as Gachagua intensifies efforts to position the party as an alternative political vehicle ahead of the 2027 polls, particularly in the Mt Kenya region.
