Advocate Ndegwa Njiru, an ally of former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, has cautioned Kenyans against what he described as an impending wave of political deception from President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement shared on his X account on Friday, February 6, 2026, Njiru urged citizens to remain alert and avoid what he termed “selective amnesia,” accusing President Ruto of being the architect of the very problems facing the country.
“Fellow Kenyans, the architect of our suffering cannot be the solution. Let us not suffer from selective amnesia. The man who set the house on fire cannot return holding a jerrycan and call himself a firefighter,” Njiru stated.
The outspoken advocate claimed that President Ruto bears direct responsibility for the economic hardships currently affecting Kenyans, arguing that the Head of State engineered the situation and is now positioning himself as the one to fix it as elections draw closer.
Njiru accused the President of orchestrating policies that have led to a struggling economy, rising costs of living, and widespread public frustration, only to later repackage the same issues as achievements or temporary setbacks being resolved by his administration.
According to Njiru, Kenyans should critically examine political messaging in the coming months and resist being swayed by campaign narratives that attempt to rewrite recent history.
His remarks add to growing criticism from opposition figures who argue that early campaign rhetoric from the government is aimed at shifting blame and reshaping public perception ahead of the 2027 polls.
As political temperatures continue to rise, Njiru’s warning reflects a broader push by opposition allies to frame the upcoming election as a referendum on President Ruto’s record in office rather than promises of future reforms.
