The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has begun training Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) ahead of the by-elections scheduled for February 26, 2026. The by-elections follow a series of vacancies in parliamentary and county assembly seats caused by resignations, court nullifications of election results, and deaths of sitting legislators.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairperson, Commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan emphasized the importance of reaffirming the Commission’s mandate, values, and responsibilities. “While elections are a collective responsibility, the credibility of the process rests squarely on our shoulders. We cannot afford to let Kenyans down who expect peaceful, fair, free, and credible by-elections,” he said.
Commissioner Hassan noted that over the past six months, the Commission engaged widely with political, security, judicial, and civil stakeholders, with a consistent message: deliver a fair election. He expressed confidence in field officers, stating, “It is my firm belief that the upcoming by-elections will be the most peaceful, credible, and transparent this country has witnessed. Consistency and strict adherence to the law and procedures are non-negotiable.”
Ag. Commission Secretary/CEO Moses Sunkuli, OGW, called on all staff to support the Commission as it undergoes reforms ahead of the 2027 General Election. “Change is inevitable. We must find new and better ways of doing things to deliver effectively to the people of Kenya,” he said.
The training will cover all aspects of election operations—from pre-polling, polling, and post-polling procedures to electronic voter identification, results management, and full compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring that poll officials are prepared to deliver high-quality election services.ou want me to do that?
