Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday met a delegation from Kajiado County at the DCP party headquarters, where discussions focused on the effects of drought and local political plans ahead of the next General Election.
The delegation was led by Anne Nashipae Monirei, a DCP aspirant for the Kajiado Woman Representative seat, who paid a courtesy call on the former Deputy President. Gachagua has been actively engaging county leaders and party aspirants, reinforcing DCP’s presence in key regions as the 2027 elections approach.
He said the team briefed him on challenges facing residents, particularly the ongoing drought that has affected water availability and pasture in parts of the county. Kajiado is among counties classified as arid and semi-arid, and has in recent years experienced recurring dry spells that have disrupted livelihoods, especially among pastoralist communities.
“The delegation briefed me on the pressing issues affecting the people of Kajiado, including the ongoing drought situation and the interventions needed to address these challenges,” he said.
Gachagua said there was need for sustained interventions to cushion affected families and protect livestock, which remains the main economic activity in the region. He also wished Ms Nashipae well in her bid for the Woman Representative seat, saying leadership should be anchored on service to the people.
“I extended my best wishes to Mrs Anne Nashipae as she seeks the mandate to lead and serve the people of Kajiado County,” he said.
The meeting comes amid heightened political activity in Kajiado, where leaders are consolidating support ahead of party nominations and the 2027 polls. Drought relief, local development, and political mobilization remain key issues shaping the county’s political landscape.
