The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that the West Kabras Ward by-election will be held on February 26, 2026, following the death of area Member of County Assembly David Ndakwa.
The vacancy arose after Mr Ndakwa’s death, triggering a constitutional requirement for the seat to be filled within the timelines set out in law.
In a statement, West Kabras Returning Officer Salim Abdalla Salim said the ward has 25 polling stations and 11,699 registered voters expected to participate in the exercise.
“All polling stations will open at 6am and close at 5pm,” Mr Salim said.
The Commission confirmed that four candidates were cleared to contest the seat after the close of nominations, setting the stage for a competitive race in the ward.
Mr Salim urged candidates and political parties to adhere strictly to the electoral code of conduct during the campaign and polling period.
“Candidates and political parties are urged to adhere to the electoral code of conduct during the election period. Voters are encouraged to remain peaceful and turn out in large numbers to elect leaders of their choice,” he said.
The IEBC said it remains open to engaging all relevant stakeholders to ensure the by-election is free, fair, transparent and credible as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of the mini-poll.
