Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and his allies have announced they will no longer engage with the office of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, accusing him of political interference and failing to deliver justice for victims of the Witima ACK Church tragedy.
In a press statement yesterday, Kalonzo, flanked by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, EGH, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and Wamalwa, said continued visits to the IG’s office were pointless. “We will not legitimise inertia, obstruction, or political interference by making ceremonial visits to an office that has chosen silence over accountability,” the statement read.
The Witima church attack, one of the deadliest incidents in recent Kenyan history, saw scores of worshippers killed, yet investigations have stalled amid allegations that the police leadership is under political pressure. Kalonzo accused the force of being turned into a “private militia for the protection of those in power.”
The group said the Constitution provides alternative avenues for justice and vowed to pursue accountability for the victims regardless of cooperation from the police or government officials.
The announcement highlights escalating frustration among political leaders and civil society over delayed investigations and raises concerns about the independence of Kenya’s police service in high-profile cases.bs attention in one line for the front page. Do you want me to do that?
