The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured voters that it is fully prepared for the by-elections scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, 2026, in four electoral areas across the country.
In a statement, the Commission said it is working closely with security agencies to ensure the polls are conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law.
“The Commission is collaborating closely with security agencies to ensure the by-elections scheduled for tomorrow are conducted peacefully across the four electoral areas,” IEBC said, adding that final logistical preparations were in full swing ahead of polling day.
The by-elections will fill vacant elective positions in Isiolo, Kakamega and Embu counties. Voters in Isiolo South Constituency will elect a new Member of the National Assembly, while those in West Kabras Ward in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, will choose a Member of the County Assembly. In Embu County, residents of Muminji Ward and Evurore Ward in Mbeere North Constituency will also elect their ward representatives.
The vacancies arose following a mix of court rulings, deaths and resignations that rendered the seats unoccupied, triggering fresh contests as required by law.
The IEBC said election materials had been dispatched to the respective constituencies and wards, and polling officials deployed. Security personnel have also been stationed in identified hotspots to deter any disruptions.
The mini-polls are being closely watched by political parties as a test of their grassroots strength ahead of the next general election, with campaigns in some areas marked by heightened rivalry.
