The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has thanked voters, staff and stakeholders following the successful conduct of by-elections in four electoral areas, saying the polls were carried out in an orderly and professional manner.
In a statement issued after the vote, the Commission expressed “sincere appreciation to Kenyans in the four by-election areas who turned out to vote,” describing the participation as a reaffirmation of public faith in the country’s democratic processes.
The by-elections were triggered by vacancies that arose in the affected constituencies and wards following a mix of deaths, resignations and court decisions that nullified earlier results, in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions requiring fresh polls to fill vacant seats.
The electoral agency commended its officials on the ground for overseeing the exercise. It praised its staff for their “dedication, diligence and professionalism in the planning and conduct of the by-elections,” noting that months of logistical preparation went into ensuring ballot materials were distributed on time and polling stations opened as scheduled.
The Commission further recognized the support of stakeholders and partners, including security agencies and election observers, saying their collaboration contributed to the peaceful conduct of the vote.
Although the IEBC lauded voter participation, it did not immediately release official turnout figures by the time of going to press. Preliminary reports from several polling centres indicated a modest turnout, with officials saying comprehensive statistics would be published after the final tally and verification process.
The by-elections come at a time when the country continues to scrutinize the management of electoral processes, placing renewed focus on transparency, efficiency and public confidence in the Commission’s operations.
