The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has reported near-complete results from Tuesday’s by-elections, with Embu and Kakamega counties finalizing their tallies and Isiolo left with just one polling station outstanding.
As of February 26, Embu had reported all 93 polling stations (100 percent), Kakamega all 25 (100 percent), while Isiolo had submitted results from 60 of 61 stations, representing 98.36 percent.
The mini-polls were called after vacancies arose from court rulings and other changes in office, including the nullification of the Isiolo South parliamentary election. Ward seats in parts of Embu and Kakamega also fell vacant, prompting fresh contests.
Although by-elections often attract lower voter turnout than general elections, they are politically significant. Parties use them to test their grassroots networks and gauge public mood between national polls.
With most stations now accounted for, attention has shifted to the final declaration of results in Isiolo, which will complete the picture of how voters in the three counties have reshaped their local leadership.
