The nation is in mourning following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of Johana Ng’eno, the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, alongside five others on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
The helicopter went down in Chepkiep area within Mosop Sub-County, Nandi County. Witnesses said the aircraft burst into flames after crashing in a forested area, leaving no survivors. Police confirmed that all six people on board, including the crew, died at the scene. Residents who rushed to the crash site reported finding charred wreckage and thick smoke rising from the bushes.
Reports indicate that Ng’eno had attended an event earlier in the day in Endebess before boarding the ill-fated flight. Flight tracking data shows the helicopter departed Nairobi at approximately 11:02 am.
Leaders from across the political spectrum have since sent heartfelt tributes, describing Ng’eno as vocal, fearless, and deeply committed to his constituents.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called for a comprehensive investigation into the crash. Speaking in Nyahururu shortly after news of the tragedy broke, Gachagua underscored Ng’eno’s influence within the Kipsigis community and demanded transparency.
“Sisi tunataka kujua uchunguzi kamili… We want to call for a very thorough investigation into the helicopter crash that has killed the honourable Johana Ngeno,” he said.
Authorities are expected to launch a full aviation and security probe to determine the cause of the crash, even as the country continues to grieve the loss of the legislator and the other victims.
