Opiyo Wandayi has assured Kenyans that the country is fully prepared to maintain an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products despite rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the Cabinet Secretary confirmed that Kenya has sufficient fuel stocks to meet both national and regional demand. He noted that the Ministry has carefully reviewed the current supply and stock situation following escalating tensions in the Middle East, where a significant portion of Kenya’s petroleum products is sourced.
Wandayi stated that as of now, the country has adequate reserves and scheduled imports to cover demand up to the end of April 2026. He emphasised that Kenya is assured of security of supply and that contingency measures are already in place to address any potential disruptions.
The CS further revealed that the Ministry is closely monitoring the evolving situation while engaging government-to-government suppliers to ensure smooth and continuous deliveries. He reassured the public and stakeholders that proactive steps are being taken to safeguard the country against any shocks arising from instability in the Gulf region.
Addressing concerns about fuel standards, Wandayi affirmed that the petroleum products in supply are of good quality and meet the required regulatory specifications. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that Kenyans not only have access to fuel but that the products distributed across the country maintain the highest quality standards.
The statement comes at a time when global energy markets are facing uncertainty due to heightened tensions in the Middle East. However, Wandayi maintained that Kenya remains alert and fully prepared, promising that the Ministry will continue to keep the country sufficiently updated as the situation unfolds.
