The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued a warning to Kenyans regarding fraudulent job advertisements circulating across social media platforms.
In a statement released on Friday through its verified accounts, the commission said several online posts claiming to offer employment opportunities with IEBC are false and should not be trusted.
The commission stressed that any legitimate recruitment announcements are only published through its official job portal and communication channels.
“Fake Jobs Alert! Beware of fraudulent job advertisements on social media. The IEBC official jobs portal is https://jobs.iebc.or.ke,” the commission stated.
IEBC also encouraged members of the public to confirm the authenticity of any job advertisement before applying or sharing personal information.
The warning follows the circulation of several posts claiming that IEBC had begun hiring staff ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Some of the posts included application links and instructions that appeared to be official, with claims that successful candidates would be contacted through email after a shortlisting process.
In one instance, a post announced that the commission had opened recruitment for various roles and provided what it claimed to be a direct application link to the IEBC portal.
Another message appeared as a public notice calling for applications to fill vacant positions, again attaching a link for interested applicants.
A third example displayed a webpage-like interface prompting users to “submit your application now,” requesting details such as names and nationality from individuals interested in working as polling staff or assistants.
IEBC has dismissed all such advertisements, confirming they are not linked to any official recruitment process.
The commission said the warning is necessary due to the increasing number of online scams targeting job seekers.
The clarification also comes shortly after IEBC officially announced vacancies for 12,520 temporary positions to support a 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise across wards in the country.
The job openings were announced on February 25, 2026, through the commission’s official X account.
“We’re hiring! The Commission invites qualified applicants to apply for temporary positions to support the thirty (30) day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise at the ward level,” the commission posted.
The available roles include voter registration assistants, voter registration clerks and ICT clerks.
The commission noted that young people are particularly encouraged to submit applications.
Among the three categories, voter registration clerks account for the largest number of vacancies, followed by voter registration assistants and ICT clerks.
Those selected will take part in the ward-based voter registration exercise expected to run for 30 days as IEBC works to increase the number of registered voters ahead of future elections.
