The Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services has disbursed more than Ksh 1.7 billion to hundreds of thousands of households supporting orphans and vulnerable children across the country.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Carren Ageng'o, the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Children Services, said the ministry released a total of Ksh 1,723,992,000 to 430,998 beneficiary households under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) Programme.
The programme is one of the key components of the government’s Inua Jamii Programme, which provides financial assistance to vulnerable members of society including the elderly, persons with severe disabilities, and households caring for vulnerable children.
According to the ministry, the funds cover the January and February 2026 payment cycle, with each beneficiary household set to receive Ksh 4,000 for each of the two months, amounting to a double payment of Ksh 8,000. The payments are being processed through a contracted payment service provider to ensure beneficiaries receive the funds efficiently.
PS Ageng’o said the CT-OVC programme plays a crucial role in supporting families caring for vulnerable children while strengthening social protection efforts in the country.
“The CT-OVC Programme aims to encourage fostering and retention of orphans and vulnerable children within their families and communities, while promoting their human capital development,” she said.
She added that the initiative helps improve access to essential services for children and supports households facing economic challenges.
“Specifically, the programme supports increased enrolment and transition in education, improved health and nutrition outcomes, enhanced household food security, and better child protection,” Ageng’o noted.
The government has continued to expand social protection programmes in recent years as part of broader efforts to reduce poverty, support vulnerable populations and promote inclusive development across the country.
